How do cloth diapers work?

Here are some of the most common questions and answers.

We offer three different types of cloth diaper systems. One Size Diapers, All-in-One Diapers and Diaper+Diaper Cover, also called Two-part System. Choose the system that suits you best – or combine with One Size Diapers on the day and All-in-One Diapers at night.

The cloth diaper, which absorbs the pee, is placed inside the leakproof diaper cover. Put in an extra insert if your child is a heavy wetter. Place the child on the cloth diaper and adjust the Velcro fastening for a snug fit. Make sure the diaper is completely inside the cover. Do not pull on the leg cuffs as this could cause leakage. It is a good idea to use our biodegradable disposable liner to make it easier to dispose of poop.

Have patience it takes a couple of times to get used to cloth diapering if you’ve never tried it before. You might even have some leakage in the beginning but that will all change once you get the hang of it.

Our All-in-One diaper This is our most affordable and easiest diaper to use as it has everything in one diaper. It is as easy to use as a disposable diaper keeping your baby dry all night. Another good thing, it dries quickly! Just add a disposable insert and you are done. When the diaper is used, remove the insert and wash the entire diaper in the machine.

What do you need if you choose All-in-One Diaper?

For laundry every 3 days we recommend 24 All-in-One Diapers, you want the diaper to be snug so choose one in the right size. You can get less diapers if you choose to wash more often. Whatever is convenient for you.

Accessories: disposable inserts that will simplify poop diaper changes, inserts for extra absorption during the night. Wet bags are a great way of storing both clean and dirty diapers.

Our latest cloth diaper grows with your child and fits throughout the diaper period. The diaper consists of two parts: a waterproof diaper cover and two separate diaper inserts that you can attach together with you diaper cover. If you have a larger child or need more absorption during the night, you can add extra inserts in the diaper cover. The diaper cover can be reused for 2-4 diaper changes before washing.

What do you need if you choose One Size Diaper?

You need about 6-8 One Size Diaper Covers and around 18 extra sets of inserts for the entire diaper period. We recommend that you have about 8 changes per day if you wash every 3 days. Our start kit includes 2 diaper covers and 16 inserts, a great way to get started on your cloth diaper journey.

The 2-part System is simple and smart, and can be combined depending on the child’s needs. You can choose an organic terry diaper or a classic folding diaper/muslin closest to your child’s skin.

Our Diaper covers contain a unique moisture-proof material yet breathable. During the diaper change, you can put the diaper (the organic fitted Terry diaper or the muslin) in the laundry basket while the covers can be used multiple times before they need a wash. Rinse off and hang dry when needed.

What do you need if you choose the 2-part System?

We recommend about 5 diaper covers in the right size and inserts all depends on how often you want to wash. Start with a few and add on as you learn what works best for you and your baby.

  1. Always pre wash your cloth diapers, we recommend that you wash them 4-6 times on a quick wash prior to use. You can compare them to a new towel, the more you wash it the more absorbent and better they get.
  2. When a diaper has been used, rinse it in cold water and squeeze it well.
Tip: hold the diaper over the toilet bowl and rinse with the shower hose if possible.
  3. Put the damp diapers in a bucket. You do not need to add extra water. The diapers can lie there for up to three days.
  4. Normally, the diapers and the diaper covers can be washed warm. If necessary, the cloth diapers can be washed hot to get them extra clean. Close the velcro fastening on the diaper covers and Snap Diapers. Tip: diapers can be washed with other items of washing. Do not use fabric softener as this leaves a residue on the surface of the fabric, which will decrease the absorbency. Do not use bleaching agents on the diaper covers. The general rule of thumb is that households with their own sewage system use detergents that contain zeolites and households connected to municipal sewage systems use phosphate-based detergents.
    1. Detergents containing phosphate: This type of washing detergent is gentler on fabrics, easier to rinse out but increases eutrophication.
    2. Detergents containing zeolites: Zeolites are small particles of aluminium that can ruin your clothes. Diapers washed frequently in detergents containing zeolites will be exposed to extra wear. If your household has its own sewage system, remember to rinse the diapers thoroughly and do not use the economy programme.
  5. We recommend that you simply hang dry cloth diapers and covers. It is perfectly ok to dry them in the tumble-dryer but this puts more wear and tear on the fabric. Never dry ImseVimse items on a hot heater or heated towel rail. Tip: if you use folding diapers, fold them as soon as they are laundered and dry – this saves time when changing diapers.
